- Barr is being acquired by Teva for $7.5 Billion. It will result in a company with nearly 1/4 of the generic market.
- Bayer struck a deal with Barr relating to the generics of their OC’s, Yasmin and Yaz. Barr can launch a generic of them in July of 2008 and 2011, respectively.
- Ranbaxy is in big trouble with the FDA and DOJ resulting from a DOJ investigation of Ranbaxy’s manufacturing and product development practices. It is claimed that some Ranbaxy drugs were fraudulently approved and manufactured. Will its acquisition by Daiichi Sankyo be in trouble?
- Taro has tried to terminate its merger deal with Sun, but Sun said “NO”. Now Sun is exercising its option to acquire controlling shareholders interest, and has accused Taro of fraud.
- Teva is suing Sandoz for patent infringement for Copaxone — using “brand strategies” to protect their brand franchise.
- ViroPharma is trying to convince the FDA that their Vancocin product, which is a locally acting GI drug, should require In-vivo studies for generic approvals.
